Rural Corridors Initiative launched to uplift livelihoods of farming communities
Addis Ababa, November 19, 2024 (FBC) – Rural Corridors Initiative was launched to elevate the livelihoods of farming communities in Ethiopia, which make up the largest segment of the country’s population, according to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
In a recent speech, the Prime Minister announced that corridor development works are set to expand to the rural areas of the nation with a fundamental goal of improving the lives of Ethiopians living in rural areas.
“We have launched the Rural Corridors Initiative to uplift the livelihoods of farming communities, which make up the largest segment of our population,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Abiy underlined the importance of elevating the quality of life for the rural community, extending beyond the confines of urban residency among Ethiopians.
Moreover, he emphasized, “While we focus on transforming urban centres through corridor development, this initiative ensures that rural communities also evolve, turning their villages into self-sustaining, sustainable, and community-centred hubs.”
It is also known that the nation is undertaking urban areas corridor development works with a core objective of building internationally competitive, welcoming, and better city and country and pass on to the future generation. It also aims to prepare this generation for urban life.
Corridor development works are said to be the underlying foundations for Ethiopia’s long-term development vision.
