King Philipe says enhancing P2P ties vital to bolster Ethiopia-Belgium relations
Addis Ababa, November 7, 2024 (FBC) – Ambassador Eshete Tilahun, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Benelux countries and the EU institutions presented his letter of credence to His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium today.
Following the formal presentation, King Philippe warmly received the ambassador and conveyed a message of greetings and best wishes to the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Taye Atske-Selassie.
His Majesty emphasized the importance of enhancing the long-standing relations between the two countries, highlighting the value of strengthening people-to-people connections and cooperation in fields such as social development.
His Majesty also inquired about the current situation in Ethiopia, the Horn of Africa, and Ethiopia’s position on certain international matters.
Ambassador Eshete provided an overview of Ethiopia’s current political and economic conditions, as well as ongoing opportunities and challenges. He underscored the potential for deepening economic ties between Ethiopia and Belgium, particularly in the areas of trade and investment.
Ambassador Eshete noted that the year 2026 would mark the 120th anniversary of the commencement of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of celebrating this milestone in the spirit of enhanced cooperation.
Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity of high-level visits to strengthen the partnership. The importance of bolstering diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations was also acknowledged.
