Ethiopia making significance stride in achieving food security: President Taye

Addis Ababa, November 7, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia is on the path towards food self sufficiency and has made a significance stride in achieving food security, President Taye Atske Selassie remarked.

The president made the remark at reception organized to the participants of The ‘World without Hunger Conference’ underway in Addis Ababa.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Presidant William Rutho of Kenya, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio, and Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah of the Republic of Guinea were also attended the dinner reception.

On the occasion, President Taye said the issue of hunger is our common agenda that requires a great deal of attention as it is the challenge of several African countries.

Ethiopia strongly recognizes the overall predicament of hunger, he said noting that the country is currently on the path towards food self-sufficiency and has made a significance stride in achieving food security.  Our determination is to stop the cascading of the miseries of the past.

He highlighted the initiative being carried out by the government of Ethiopia in wheat cultivation that has been bearing remarkable achievements.

Ethiopia has now achieved wheat self-sufficiency and has been able to export its surplus product; he indicated extending gratitude to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his effective leadership, vision and commitment to Ethiopia’s farmers as well as for the transformation of the country’s agriculture sector.

The PM Abiy has registered strategical transformations in the sector by closely providing supports to the farmers.

President Taye stressed the need for strong partnership among African governments and the private sector in order to enhance productivity and climate resilience sustainable development, as called by local newswire service ENA.

The ‘World without Hunger Conference’ underway in Addis Ababa has brought important insights, he concluded.

The conference, co-organized by UNIDO, the African Union Commission (AUC), and the Government of Ethiopia with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), attracted over 1,500 high-level stakeholders from across the globe including Heads of State, Ministers, UN agencies, financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society, all committed to addressing global food insecurity.
