Ethiopia begins construction of Africa’s largest airport, expands fleet with 124 new aircrafts

Addis Ababa, October 31, 2024 (FBC) – Addressing the House of Peoples’ Representatives today, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), stated that the government has begun works to construct Africa’s largest airport, set to handle 100-130 million passengers annually.
The new airline will be connected to the existing one though rail transport, the Premier disclosed.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that the Ethiopian Airlines is expanding its fleet with 124 new aircrafts, reinforcing Ethiopia Airlines as Africa’s largest operator and a key aviation hub.
In relation to expansion works, the maintenance and overhaul facilities will also be expanded thereby facilitating more jobs and enhancing excellence of the aviation sector, the Premier added.
