UNICEF appreciates Ethiopia’s climate action as exemplary to other countries
Addis Ababa, October 26, 2024 (FBC) – Minister of Planning and Development, Fitsum Assefa (PhD), held bilateral discussion with the UNICEF Representative in Ethiopia, Dr. Aboubacar Kampo on ways of enhancing cooperation between Ethiopia and the agency.
During the occasion, Fitsum acknowledged UNICEF’s close collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and Development including the child care establishment, climate space and other issues.
Dr. Aboubacar disclosed that UNICEF’s action is undergoing a view to addressing chronic challenges of poverty strategically through taking climate actions.
He appreciated Ethiopia’s ambitious climate policy and actions currently under implementation which could be exemplary to the other world.
Fitsum reassured a close collaboration with all development partners as part of the reform agenda of the Ministry of Planning and Development.
She praised our development partners consideration of climate agenda into their initiatives. Having financial and technical support is instrumental for Ethiopia’s ambition for climate policy and action in the coming 30 years that is highlighted in our NDC and LT-LEDS.
Fitsum requested all stakeholders to advocate Ethiopia’s climate ambitions so that Ethiopia could implement her ambitious climate policies in achieving the aspirations of the country to grow greener, sustainable, and leading role in international climate policy frameworks.
The two parties agreed to continue to meet at COP29 at a higher level to deepen the collaborations of the two organizations in the areas of climate change and beyond.
