President Putin affirms commitment of Russian companies to invest in Ethiopia in various sectors

Addis Ababa, October 18, 2024 (FBC) – President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, met with heads of media of the BRICS member countries. Chief Executive Officer of Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), Mr. Admasu Damtew attended the meeting with the Russian president representing Ethiopia.

In response to the query raised by Mr. Admasu regarding the ongoing collaboration between BRICS countries, President Putin stated that Ethiopia and Russia have been enjoying a very profound relationship in spiritual, humanitarian and cultural spheres.

Regarding cooperation in the investment sector, President Putin indicated that many Russian companies are interested to engage in Ethiopia in the energy and other crucial sectors.

“Our companies are interested to join the Ethiopian market in the energy, machine building and other important sectors,” Putin said.

President Putin noted that he discussed with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) on how to further strengthen the cooperation between Russia and Ethiopia in several sectors including the energy sector.

Regarding cooperation in the education sector, the President noted that Russia has good cooperation with BRICS countries including Ethiopia in this field.

“We have conventionally had very positive ties and expertise in training personnel and educating students for Africa, starting with the USSR,” he added.

“Thousands of people from Africa were educated and many of them still occupy important positions in their countries after graduating from Russian universities, which makes us happy,” President Putin pointed out.

“Today, all the incumbent public servants from African countries singing Russian songs using very good command of the Russian language and this is a very good foundation and help enhance our cooperation and we will continue to strengthen this cultural and people to people cooperation,”

Russia has a lot of projects benefiting BRICS countries in the infrastructural development sphere, President Putin said, explaining that “The North -south corridor from the Baltic Sea to the Gulf, a railway stretching between the Baltic Sea and the Arab Gulf is part of the infrastructural development.”
