China issues first licence for artificial intelligence kitchen robots

Moscow, October 12, 2024 (TV BRICS) – Beijing has issued its first commercial catering licence to a robot with built-in intelligence, representing a milestone in the regulation and application of advanced technology in the food industry, according to China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

Unlike traditional single-task robots, the new type of robot can cook different dishes, adapt to the working environment and create new menus, thanks to its capacity for continuous learning.

These robots, designed as robotic arms, prioritise food safety by controlling factors such as oil temperature, which reduces risks in the kitchen. In addition, they meet strict national standards and were thoroughly assessed before being granted a licence.

According to authorities in Beijing’s Haidian district, artificial intelligence is an inevitable trend that is transforming the food and beverage sector.

Robots have already been implemented in city offices offering fried food, and their use is expected to expand to restaurant chains by the end of the year, preparing everything from ice cream to salads.

This technology has the potential to reduce operating costs, such as rent and labour, as well as meeting the demand for food with precise and consistent flavours.
