Belarus leader congratulates President Taye on his appointment as Ethiopian president
Addis Ababa, October 10, 2024 (FBC) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated Taye Atske-Selassie on his appointment as president of Ethiopia, Belarusian news wire service BelTA reported citing the press service of the Belarusian leader.
It known that President Taye Atske-Selassie was sworn in as the fifth president of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia during the joint sitting of the House of People’s Representatives and House of Federation on Monday 7th October 2024. He assumed the office from the first female head of state Sahle-Work Zewde after her tenure ended this week.
In light of this, the Belarusian leader sent his congratulatory cable to President Taye, stating: “I am confident that your many years of diplomatic experience will help you increase the constructive role of Ethiopia in the African region and solve problems on the global agenda. Minsk and Addis Ababa have long been linked by friendly relations. Their history is much longer than the 30 years of official diplomatic relations that we mark this year. I consider your country our true friend and bulwark in Africa and I reaffirm our interest in significantly intensifying interaction across the board.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko said he expects that Ethiopia will continue to support Belarus in its bid to join BRICS. “As a state with an independent position, we strongly support the basic principles of this influential international association – multipolarity, equality and non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states,” he emphasized.
The Belarusian president invited President Taye to visit his country to discuss all topical issues and agree on ways to deepen Belarus-Ethiopia cooperation.
Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Taye Atske-Selassie good health, fulfillment of plans and success in this responsible government post.
