Ethiopia’s FM Taye participating in the 9th FOCAC Ministerial Conference in Beijing
Addis Ababa, September 3, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie, is participating in the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Ministerial Conference in Beijing, China.
During his opening remarks at the conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s desire for a more collaborative partnership with Africa, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in achieving a prosperous future.
Wang Yi further confirmed that China is committed to strengthening the South-South cooperation, with the aim of fostering mutual development and prosperity.
The Chinese foreign minister emphasized that it is high time for cooperation to write a new history together.
In an interview with Fana Broadcasting Corporate, Ethiopia’s ambassador to China, Teferra Derbew, expressed his country’s commitment to strengthening its friendships with other nations and safeguarding its national interests.
The 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and related events is expected to provide a framework for navigating China’s evolving strategic partnership with the continent in the post-COVID era.
Leaders of FOCAC’s African members will attend the summit at the invitation of the forum. Representatives of relevant African regional organizations and international organizations will attend relevant forum events.
In that regard, African heads of state have begun arriving in the Chinese capital, Beijing, ahead of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit which will be held from 4 to 6 September 2024 under the theme “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future”.
The Chines Foreign Ministry recently confirmed that the Summit will hold a welcoming banquet, opening ceremony, four high-level meetings on the topics of state governance, industrialization and agricultural modernization, peace and security, high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, as well as the eighth Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs and other related activities.
