ECA pledges support to Ethiopia’s manufacturing industry, ‘Made in Ethiopia’ initiative
Addis Ababa, August 31, 2024 (FBC) – In a meeting held at his office on Friday, Ethiopia’s Minister of Industry, Melaku Alebel, engaged in a discussion with the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and his delegation.
During their conversation, the two officials explored potential avenues of collaboration in manufacturing, financing, market expansion, peer learning, regional value chains, and capacity building within the leather and livestock sectors. These efforts aim to enhance the “Made in Ethiopia” initiative and promote inclusive development throughout the country.
During the course of the conversation with Executive Secretary Gatete, Minister Melaku underscored the significant importance attached to the manufacturing sector by the Ethiopian government.
He highlighted the sector’s pivotal role in fostering national economic growth, creating jobs, and enhancing international competitiveness. Additionally, Minister Melaku pointed out the challenges that hinder further progress in the manufacturing industry.
The two dignitaries proceeded to discuss initiatives aimed at capacity building, which aim to boost innovation and drive advancements in the manufacturing sector.
Following their discussion, Executive Secretary Claver Gatete reaffirmed the ECA’s dedication to maintaining a collaborative partnership with Ethiopia. In this partnership, the ECA has pledged to offer its backing to support the growth of the country’s manufacturing industry, with a particular focus on the leather sector.
