MILLs, IFAD discuss partnership on ongoing projects and successful completion of LLRP I

Addis Ababa, August 30, 2024 (FBC) – Abraham Belay, Ethiopia’s Minister of Irrigation and Lowlands (MILLs) received Mr. Donal Brown, Associate Vice President of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), along with senior delegates from IFAD, for discussions on ongoing projects and the successful completion of LLRP I.

During the course of their discussion, Minister Abraham highlighted the recent fast-paced progress of his ministry’s projects. He also emphasized irrigation as a key entry point for driving agricultural transformation in Ethiopia.

On his part, Mr. Brown emphasized the significance of the partnership on the ongoing projects and the successful completion of the first phase of Lowlands Livelihood Resilience Project (LLRP I)–as the largest in Africa and one of IFAD’s most effective collaborations.

He expressed gratitude to the Ethiopian government for its transformative initiatives and the recent Economic Reform Policy. The Associate Vice President expressed optimism about increasing resource allocations to support ongoing and future initiatives, including MILLs’ groundbreaking Climate-Resilient Irrigation for Sustainable Production (CRISP) and Small-Scale Irrigation projects.

It was mentioned that both parties noted the need to incentivize private sector investments in irrigation that align with these initiatives.

Note that Lowlands Livelihood Resilience Project aims to enhance livelihood resilience at scale in the most marginalized regions of Ethiopia..
