Ethiopian embassy to receive dedicated place in Islamabad for Green Legacy Park

Addis Ababa, August 2, 2024 (FBC) – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) of Islamabad has decided to give a dedicated land to the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad for establishing an “Ethiopia-Pakistan Fraternity Park” under the Green Legacy Initiative of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the Embassy confirmed in a press note to FBC today.

The decision to this effect was taken during a meeting between Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan Jemal Beker and Commissioner Islamabad and CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa.

During the meeting, the matters of mutual interest such as collaboration on green initiatives, sister city status for Addis Ababa and Islamabad and knowledge sharing on urban development came under discussion.

On the occasion, Ambassador Jemal briefed the CDA Chairman on Green Legacy Initiative under which more than 40 billion seedlings of fruits, vegetables and animal feeds were planted across the country through mobilization of masses at large scale over the past few years.

The Ambassador also informed him about the massive development carried out by the Government of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa city on modern lines, especially river banking and establishment of green corridor in the city.

During the meeting, he recalled the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad had launched the Green Legacy Initiative last year in Islamabad and across the country to mobilize the people in Pakistan for tree plantation which is critical to address climate change.

He said the second round of the Green Legacy planting will be launched soon with the participation of the individuals from all walks of life including government officials, parliamentarians, diplomatic and religious community, business and media fraternity, youth, and civil society in Pakistan.

In return, the CDA Chairman said they would provide a dedicate space to the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad at the foothills of the Margalla Hills National Park, Islamabad for establishing a Green Legacy Park.

He praised the urban development in Ethiopia seeking knowledge transfer for river banking in Addis Ababa.

The CDA Chairman also underlined the need for granting a sister city status to the capital cities of both the countries, Addis Ababa and Islamabad.
