MoLS, Statistical Service join forces to create 40,000+ jobs

Addis Ababa, July 28, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS) has signed an agreement with the Ethiopian Statistical Service (ESS), with the aim of generating employment opportunities for over 40,000 citizens.

This collaboration will facilitate the hiring of professionals who will participate in the upcoming Agricultural Sample Survey, which will be conducted nationwide by the Ethiopian Statistical Service next year. The employment process will be facilitated through the Ethiopian Labor Market Information System (ELMIS).

During the signing ceremony, Ms. Muferihat Kamil, the Minister of Labor and Skills, emphasized the significance of the Agricultural Sample Survey, which will be conducted by the Ethiopian Statistical Service across the country.

She noted that this survey will play a crucial role in accurately measuring the outcomes of rural and urban agriculture initiatives, including the “Bounty of the Basket” (YeLemat Trufat) program implemented in previous years.

The Minister further stated that the agreement will facilitate a fair, efficient, and cost-effective recruitment process.

Ms. Muferihat Kamil also pointed out that the Ethiopian Labor Market Information System (ELMIS), which was recently developed by Ethiopian youth, aims to modernize the labor market, identify the skills in demand, and create numerous job opportunities for citizens in a fair manner.

On the other hand, Beker Shalle, the Director General of the Ethiopian Statistical Service, emphasized the widespread implementation of ELMIS across the country.

He mentioned that this system enables the efficient collection of information in a short timeframe while maintaining high quality.

It has been stated that young people with bachelor’s degrees all over Ethiopia can register and engage in work by providing their biometric information at the labor and employment office in their locality area.
