Police announces roads to be closed for Eid al-Adha prayers in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, June 15, 2024 (FBC) – The Addis Ababa Police Department has issued a statement indicating that specific roads leading to the National Stadium in the capital will be closed to vehicular traffic from the start of the 1445th Eid al-Adha (Arafa) holiday prayer until its conclusion on Sunday, June 16.
It is known that on June 16, 2024, the 1445th Eid al-Adha holiday will be observed by the Muslim faithful. A prayer ceremony will take place at the Addis Ababa Stadium and on the surrounding main roads on Sunday morning.
In this regard, the Addis Ababa Police Department has announced that specific roads leading to the National Stadium will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11:00 local time in the morning (5 pm) until the conclusion of the event to prevent traffic congestion.
Hence, the list of highways and roads to remain closed for the occasion are listed below.
- The Piazza-Churchill Street-Legehar will be closed at Thewodros Square
- The Gotera-Stadium route will be closed at Agona Cinema
- The Mexico-Legehar highways will be closed at Mexico Square
- The National Palace-Meskel Square route will be closed around National Parliament
- The Olympia-Meskel Square will be closed at Olympia Square
- The Megenagna- Urael Church route will be closed at the Haya Hulet Intersection
- The Black Lion Hospital-Legehar road will be closed around Black Lion Hospital
- The Signal and Abuare-Kazanchis road will be closed at Abuare Women’s Square
- The Meskel Flower- Meskel Square route is set to be closed at Gazebo Square
- The Kera highway to Kirkos Church road is seto be closed at the junction of Kirkos Church.
- The Geja Sefer-Sangatera-Legehar route will be closed at Senga Tera 40/60 condominiums.
- The Abnet-Geja Sefer-National Theater will be closed around Goma Kuteba
- The Teklehaymanot Church-Meteorology-National Theater road will be close at Meteorology Service Office
- The Teklehaimanot Church-Black Lion Hospital-National Theater route is set to be closed at Black Lion Hospital Shell Drains area
- The Teklehaimanot Church-Golla Mickael Church-Legehar inside route will be closed at Gola Mickael intersection.
Moreover, these road closures will be in effect from 11:00 local time in the morning (5 pm) until the conclusion of the event. The Addis Ababa Police Department has appealed to the public to take note of these road closures and to use alternative routes suggested by the traffic police. They have also extended their best wishes to all Muslim faithful celebrating the occasion.
