Repatriation of 1590 Ethiopian nationals from Oman underway
Addis Ababa, May 7, 2024 (FBC) – The Ministry of Women and Social Affairs of Ethiopia has confirmed that the process of repatriating undocumented Ethiopian migrants, who have been staying in detention centers in Oman, commenced today.
The plan entails returning a total of 1590 Ethiopians from Oman to their home country through six flights scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As part of this move, 230 Ethiopian individuals, all of whom are adult males, were repatriated from Oman today, including 18 minors below the age of 18.
The process of reuniting returning citizens with their families is being carried out by offering comprehensive support and care at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, as well as temporary transitional centers.
It is known that Ethiopia is also repatriating about 70,000 undocumented Ethiopian migrants who are in detention centers in Saudi Arabia.
