NRC, IOM discuss existing cooperation framework and ways forward for DDR

Addis Ababa, May 5, 2024 (FBC) – The Chief Commissioner of the National Rehabilitation Commission of Ethiopia (NRC), Mr. Temesgen Tilahun, recently met with Abibatou Wane, Chief of Mission at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Country Office in Ethiopia, to discuss partnership priorities.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in a productive discussion on various topics, including the existing cooperation framework, IOM’s extensive work in the country, and strategies for the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) of former combatants, peace-building efforts, and durable solutions.

Recognizing the importance of collaboration, Mr. Temesgen and Ms. Wane agreed to scale up engagements in resource mobilization, advocacy, capacity building, and technical support. They emphasized the need to strengthen all-round cooperation and support, considering the significant resources required for the Commission’s activities.

Expressing his appreciation for IOM’s multifaceted support, Mr. Temesgen requested that the partnership continue to be strengthened. He acknowledged the high amount of resources needed by the Commission and highlighted the crucial role played by IOM in supporting their endeavors.

In response, Abibatou Wane reaffirmed IOM’s commitment to the partnership and assured that they will continue working closely together on identified priorities. She emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration to achieve sustainable development goals.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of the importance of resource mobilization, advocacy, capacity building, and technical support in advancing the NRC’s objectives. Both parties expressed their determination to further enhance their partnership and work towards the common goal of promoting peace, stability, and rehabilitation in Ethiopia.

This strengthened collaboration between the National Rehabilitation Commission of Ethiopia and the International Organization for Migration sets a positive trajectory for future joint efforts in addressing the challenges of DDR, peace-building, and sustainable solutions in the country.
