Ministry of Finance, AFD discuss ways of enhancing cooperation on renewable energy sector
Addis Ababa, April 29, 2024 (FBC) – The State Ministry of Finance for Economic Cooperation, Semereta Sewasew discussed with the French Development Agency (AFD) on how to support efforts to promote renewable, integrated, sustainable energy, and digitalization in Ethiopia.
The consultation focused on consolidation of assistance for renewable, integrated, sustainable energy, and digitalization through the European Union, the European Investment Bank and the French Treasury.
AFDs support in the Ethiopian energy sector focuses on improving distribution, reducing losses, and ensuring a stable electricity supply.
Moreover, AFD financed Ethiopia’s inaugural wind farm project and continue to support the initiatives.
The support will contribute to different sectors in the energy, telecom, and cross-sector fields namely gender equality, risk disaster management, climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation, digitalization, and connectivity.
The State Minister of Finance, Semereta Sewasew emphasized the critical importance of the energy sector, acknowledging Ethiopia’s immense potential in this field.
The Meeting was attended by AFD team composed of Mrs. Julie De Pierre Pont, Mrs. Aida Ndiaye, and Mr. Blaise Gonda energy, digital and education task team leaders along with the heads of the European Union Delegation, the European Investment Bank, the AFD Country Director and French Embassy official
