WFP vows humanitarian assistance for people in need in Benshangul Gumuz region
Addis Ababa, April 11, 2024 (FBC) – Chief Administrator of Benshangul Gumuz Regional State, Ashadli Hassen discussed with Chris Nikoi, WFP Regional Director for East Africa and Ethiopia Country Director on how to enhance humanitarian assistance to people in need in the region.
It is stated during their conversation that Benshangul Gumuz Region has now sheltered refugees fleeing conflict in Sudan apart from residents affected by conflicts over the past years.
Ashadli told the WFP Regional Director that 90pct of IDPs in the region have been reinstated to their homes after restoration of peace in the area.
He called WFP and other international organizations to support reconstruction of institutions and infrastructures in the region.
Chris Nikoi, for his part, affirmed that he recognizes the extent of the pressure created in the region due to influx of refugees from conflict affected countries, pledging commitment of WFP in rehabilitating people affected by conflicts and delivering food assistance to those in need in the region.
