Addis Ababa corridor dev’t project advancing rapidly
Addis Ababa, April 6, 2024 (FBC) – The ongoing Addis Ababa Corridor Development Project, which is aimed at uplifting the image of the city by meeting international smart city standards, is progressing rapidly.
Workers at the project sites stated that they have been working day and night to finish the project within a short period.
The Addis Ababa City Administration has embarked on an initiative to upgrade key routes and improve connectivity among the corridors.
ENA reported that the construction work being carried out at night beyond the normal working hours.
The project workers engaged in the construction of the corridor from Mexico to SarBet and Wollo Sefer told the journalist that they were working during the night to complete the project ahead of time and to contribute to the growth of the city.
Recall that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed reviewed the progress of the construction activities along the five designated corridors last week.
The scope of work encompasses revitalizing slum areas of the city, enhancing living conditions for residents, fulfilling infrastructure such as integrated drainage systems and utility infrastructure, expanding roads to accommodate rising traffic volumes, creating spacious pedestrian walkways, restoring heritage sites, and upgrading buildings to align with the city’s esthetic standards.
The city administration has conducted extensive consultations with the relevant stakeholders prior to commencing the project and has implemented various measures to assist households displaced by the development activities.
The development of the corridors is anticipated to be completed ahead of the rainy season.
Employees of the project are therefore toiling day and night to complete the reconstruction work in a short period.
Prime Minister Abiy also posted last week that “while the process may affect properties owned or leased by various sectors, including the private sector, government, and low-income communities, the long-term benefits of this ambitious undertaking will be significant for all stakeholders and the broader public once completed.”
