Second Generation Diasporas continue arrival under phase II of “Back to Your Origins”
Addis Ababa, April 5, 2024 (FBC) – Under the second phase of “Back to Your Origins” homecoming, members of the second generation Ethiopian Diaspora are returning to Ethiopia to reconnect with their ancestral homeland.
Upon their arrival today, they were warmly received at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport by senior government officials, including the Minister of Tourism, Ambassador Nasise Chali.
It is to be recalled that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed while inaugurating the Chebera Elephant Paw Lodge in December 2023 extended an invitation to the second generation of the Ethiopian Diaspora to revisit their roots, immerse themselves in the rich history and culture, and actively participate in the nation’s dynamic development endeavors. Conducted under the theme of “Connect to Your Culture,” the first phase of the “Back to Your Origins” initiative has garnered significant interest, with over 74,000 second-generation Ethiopian Diaspora members responding positively, as announced by the Ethiopian Diaspora Service recently.
Therefore, the ongoing second phase of the homecoming for the second generation of the diaspora is unfolding under the theme “Connect to Your History.” In response to Prime Minister’s initiative “Back to Your Origins,” numerous second-generation Ethiopians are coming to Ethiopia to celebrate the forthcoming holidays and revel in their ancestral land, as stated today by Tourism Minister Ambassador Nasise Chali upon welcoming the arrivals at Bole International Airport.
She emphasized that a range of events will be arranged for the second-generation Ethiopians arriving in the country during the current phase until the end of this month, ensuring they have a fulfilling experience in their nation of origin.
The upcoming third round of homecoming is scheduled from the onset of the Ethiopian rainy season until September 30, 2024. During this period, the second-generation diaspora returning to their homeland will partake in the national annual tree planting event.
Note that special discounts are arranged by the Ethiopian Airlines and the hotels in all parts of the country for the second diaspora community who come home as per the schedule announced, the Prime Minister added.
