Premier commends achievements in road infrastructure projects in Amhara region

Addis Ababa, February 6, 2024 (FBC) – Addressing the 3rd year 14th Regular Session of the House of People’s Representatives, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), said that the government has been implementing 53 road infrastructure projects covering 3,200 km in Amhara Region.

Out of the total projects, 1,300 km of roads have been constructed and opened for services in several parts of the region.

The Premier said the 50 m long Abay River Bridge has been constructed with an outlay of 2.4 billion birr to maintain the progress of road connectivity.

The government has achieved significant progress in tackling development challenges and enhancing tourism appeals through activities like the Gorgora project within the Amhara region, the Premier underscored.

Discussions that have been conducted across all zones in Amhara Region have highlighted three main concerns from the populace; development, constitutional reform, and administrative boundary demarcation issues.

The Premier cited the construction of the Abay River Bridge, renovation works on the Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela and the Gorgora Project as remarkable development achievements made in response to public quest for development in Amhara regional state.

Concerning administrative boundary demarcation, the government is committed to ensuring that this matter is settled through dialogue, aiming for a resolution that ensures lasting peace, the Prime Minister noted.
