Ethiopian Diaspora donate over 100m birr to COVID-19 sub-committee
Addis Ababa, May 6, 2020 (FBC) –The Ethiopian Diaspora and other entities have donated over 100 million birr in monetary and non-monetary terms to the national COVID-19 resource mobilization sub-committee.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over 10 million of the total money will be allocated to support Ethiopians residing in various African and the Middle Eastern countries who are affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
On the occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew, handed over a 4.4 million birr check contributed by employees of his Ministry to Birtukan Ayano, head of one of the wings of the sub-committee.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Eastern Australia, the Oromia Diaspora Association, and Tola Geda, owner of the U.S. College also handed over their donations by check.
On the occasion, the government officials expressed their gratitude for the donations and called for continued support.
