Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia discuss cross-border crimes, human trafficking
Addis Ababa, January 25, 2024 (FBC) – A delegation led by Ethiopian Federal Police Chief Commissioner General Demelash Gebre-Michael has travelled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for working visit.
Upon arrival in Riyadh, the Ethiopian delegation was received by Saudi Arabia’s Assistant Interior Minister, General Saeed bin Abdullah Al-Qahtani.
During its stay in Riyadh, the delegation visited the 911 information center and held bilateral discussions with other security and intelligence officials.
In their discussion, the two dignitaries deliberated focusing on border security, cross-border crimes and human trafficking.
Both sides have also reached an agreement to work in cooperation on information exchange and capacity building.
At the same time, General Saeed bin Abdullah Al-Qahtani stated that his country is interested in providing job opportunities for Ethiopian nationals who enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia legally. He also confirmed that his government is working on the issue.
It is mentioned that both countries affirmed to continue working together to ensure accountability against human traffickers.
It is also indicated that the Ethiopian delegation also held discussions with relevant police leadership of KSA to further strengthen the police-to-police relations of the two countries.
