Military attachés, int’l partners apprised of current affairs in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, January 18, 2024 (FBC) – Military attachés and international partners stationed in Ethiopia were briefed about the current state of affairs in Ethiopia.

The first 2024 meeting of military attachés and international partners, organized by the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), was held in Addis Abeba this morning.

National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Redwan Hussien, and the Director General of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Fesseha Shawul, have briefed the military attachés and representatives of international partners on current affairs in the country.

The briefing, according to ENA, includes the implementation and progress of the Pretoria peace accord, the recent MoU signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland, and other current security issues in the country.

On the occasion, Ambassador Redwan said that the government of Ethiopia is working with strong commitment for the effective implementation of the Pretoria peace accord, citing the positive strides so far taken to realizing this commitment.

He has also mentioned the role of some international partners in supporting the ongoing reconstruction efforts in the region.

Opening the meeting, ENDF International Relations and Military Cooperation Director-General Major General Teshome Gemechu said the meeting aims to apprise the military attaches and partners on contemporarily security issue in the country.

Acknowledging the partners for their better cooperation with Ethiopia in the year 2023 is also the other objective of today’s meeting, he added.

Major General Teshome recalled that there were similar meeting, where members of the attachés and representative of the international and regional organization came together to discuss on mutual cooperation.

Moreover, he elaborated that the military diplomacy has a huge task in developing and maintaining productive mutual relationship.
