DPM and FM Demeke meets President of World Economic Forum in Davos

Addis Ababa, January 17, 2024 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, held a sideline meeting with the President of the Forum, Borge Brende.

On the occasion, Demeke elaborated Ethiopia’s current economic achievements and post-conflict reconstruction.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister said the economic policy reform that was undertaken by the Government of Ethiopia three years ago is helping to sustain annual GDP growth for consecutive years.

Demeke mentioned the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam as an exemplary project in showing the priority that has been given to expanding development projects and investing in potential sectors to enhance the country’s economic performance.

Furthermore, he underscored that the Government would continue to reform the financial sector as a key area to increase the role of private investment.

The President of the World Economic Forum Borge Brende, praised Ethiopia for its participation in the annual World Economic Forum.

The President also stated that the Forum is keen on strengthening its partnership with Ethiopia.
