Series of New Earthquakes Hit Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture – Meteorologists
TOKYO, January 1 (Sputnik) – A series of new earthquakes occurred in the Japanese prefecture of Ishikawa on Monday less than an hour after first underground tremors were recorded, meteorologists said.
The magnitude of the new quakes, which hit at 5:02 p.m. (07:02 GMT) and 5:07 p.m. local time, were estimated at 4.9 and 5.2.
The first wave of quakes hit Japan’s west on Monday afternoon. A magnitude 5.7 earthquake was recorded at 4:06 p.m. local time, followed by a magnitude 7.6 quake 4 minutes later, and a magnitude 6.1 earthquake 8 minutes after that.
