UAE provides training on combating terrorism, extremism
Addis Ababa, October 19, 2023 (FBC) – Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Addis Ababa has provided training to military personnel of different countries on combating terrorism and extremism at the Defense War College (DWC) today.
In his opening remark, Defense War College Dean Colonel Tilahun Demssie appreciated UAE’s commitment to the pressing issue of combating terrorism and extremism.
This event is not the beginning of the relationship between Ethiopia and UAE, he said, adding it is rather an extension of the various cooperation at national level, as reported by ENA.
“Both Ethiopia and the UAE have a very good history in fighting against terrorism. They have been conducting tremendous effort to minimize the negative impact of terrorism and extremism on global peace, and development in their own different strategies,” Colonel Tilahun elaborated.
The training will enable the participants from 9 countries in minimizing the transnational challenges of terrorism through creating common picture about the magnitude and impact of terrorism to the global peace and stability, he pointed out.
UAE Embassy Political, Economic, and Media Affairs Head, Talal Al Azeezi said UAE believes that terrorism and extremism are threats to its security and stability as well as the regional and international environment.
“UAE has been an active voice against terrorism in all its forms and it is continuing renewing its commitment both nationally and internationally; not just to fight and confronting terrorism but also to combating extremism ideology which fuels the violence extremist organizations,” he stressed.
Talal noted the need to address the risk terrorism and extremism represents to the society in order to ensure a safer future for the coming generation.
The training is part of UAE’s commitment in combating terrorism and extremism through collaboration, it was indicated.
