IMF chief lauds Ethiopia’s determination to advance homegrown economic reform agenda
Addis Ababa, October 10, 2023 (FBC) – The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, stated that she is impressed by Ethiopia’s determination to advance its homegrown economic reform agenda.
The IMF Managing Director revealed that after her meeting with the Minister of Finance Mr. Ahmed Shide and Governor of National Bank of Ethiopia, Mr. Mamo Mihretu, on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Marrakech, Morocco.
The Ethiopian delegation consisting of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of National Bank of Ethiopia is participating in the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Marrakech, Morocco.
Following her meeting with the Ethiopian delegates, the IMF Managing Director stated via a social media post that she is impressed by their determination to advance Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reform agenda.
The IMF chief confirmed that their discussion covered a range of issues pertaining to how the IMF can support Ethiopia.
On the other hand, Finance Minister Ahmed Shide also held a meeting with Maitreyi Bordia Das, Director at the World Bank – Trust Funds & Partner Relations. During their meeting, both sides discussed how pooled resources from co-financing can lower burden on countries like Ethiopia.
The 2023 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is taking place in person from Monday, October 9, through Sunday, 19 October 2023 in Marrakech, Morocco.
