Ethiopia gearing up for COP28 participation: MoPD
Addis Ababa, September 15, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia is expediting preparations for its participation on the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in October 2023, the Ministry of Planning and Development said.
It is learned that the Ethiopian government has established a high-level national committee to oversee the country’s preparations for COP28. The committee is chaired by the Minister of Planning and Development, Fitsum Aseffa, and includes representatives from other relevant ministries, agencies, and civil society organizations.
MoPD asserted that the Ethiopian government is committed to playing a leading role in the global climate change fight. The country has set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing its use of renewable energy. Ethiopia is also working to build resilience to the impacts of climate change, which are already being felt in the country.
At COP28, Ethiopia will be looking to share its experiences and lessons learned in addressing climate change. The country will also be seeking support from the international community to implement its climate change goals, the Ministry mentioned.
