NRC, FAO affirm commitment to collaborate on efforts of restoring livelihood of ex-combatants
Addis Ababa, September 7, 2023 (FBC) – National Rehabilitation Commission of Ethiopia (NRC) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have expressed commitment to collaborate on efforts of restoring livelihoods of ex-combatants in the conflict-affected areas through the agriculture sector.
Both sides asserted their commitment to working together during a meeting between Chief Commissioner of National Rehabilitation Commission of Ethiopia (NRC), Ambassador Teshome Toga met with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) country office in Ethiopia Representative Farayi Zimudzi to discuss collaboration on livelihood restoration for ex-combatants in conflict-affected areas.
Considering nearly 80% of Ethiopians dependent on agriculture sector, it’s critical to building and sustaining peace in Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) through the sector.
FAO reiterated that it will support through providing agricultural inputs, improved technologies and capacity building.
Concluding their meeting, both the NRC Commissioner Ambassador Teshome Toga and FAO Representative Farayi Zimudzi committed to working closely together in the efforts of rehabilitation and reintegration of ex-combatants in conflict-affected areas of the country.
