The Walias landed in Cairo ahead of their AFCON qualifiers match against Egypt
Addis Ababa, Setember 6, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopia national team members have arrived in Cairo this morning ahead of their African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) group D qualifying match against their Egyptian counterparts.
The national football team squad members arrived in Cairo after a flight of more than 3 hours.
The Walias have triumphed a memorable 2-0 victory over Egypt in the reverse fixture which was played in Malawi last year, thanks to goals from Dawa Hotesa and the captain Shimels Bekele.
However, the Ethiopian national team could not book their place in the Africa Cup of Nations 2024 tournament after a series of disappointing results in the groups against Guinea and Malawi. The Pharaohs have comfortably booked their place in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations tournament which will be held in Côte d’Ivoire. On the contrary, the Walias sit at the bottom of group D with 4 points, behind third-placed Malawi and second-placed Guinea.
