GERD tripartite negotiation resumed in Cairo

Addis Ababa, August 27, 2023 (FBC) – The tripartite negotiation on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has been resumed in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.

It is to be recalled that the tripartite negotiation was going on in Abu Dhabi, UAE earlier and a draft agreement was unveiled, although it didn’t proceed.

The resumption of the negotiation is based on the agreement reached between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during Premier’s recent visit to Egypt.

Discussion and negotiation will be held on the draft agreement and other related issues, according to the Government Communication Service (GCS).

Preparations have been undertaken to ensure that the negotiation will continue in respect of Ethiopia’s benefit and the right to development, GCS noted.
