Premier acclaims Ethiopian athletes over clean sweep of medals in 10,000m race in Budapest
Addis Ababa, August 20, 2023 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) extended a congratulatory message over the incredible victory of Ethiopian women athletes in the 10,000m race at the 19th World Athletics Championship being held in Budapest, Hungary.
The Prime Minister extended his congratulatory message on his social media page saying: “Proud daughters of Ethiopia raise the flag once again at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest. A sweep for Ethiopia in the women’s 10,000m!”
Recall that Gudaf Tsegay, Letesenbet Gidey, and Ejigayehu Taye scooped the gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 10,000m women’s race in Budapest last night.
Gudaf Tsegay stormed to the gold medal clocking 31:27.18 after a dramatic finale.
Letesenbet Gidey (31:28.16) and Ejgayehu Taye (31:28.31) completed the sweep for Ethiopia as they clinched silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Ethiopia’s quest for more glory in Budapest continues later today in the 10,000m men’s final as Berihu Aregawi, Solomon Barega and Yismaw Dilu gear up to lead the line in Budapest. Meanwhile, Hirut Meshesha, Birke Hayelom, and Diribe Welteji are looking to make it to the 1500m women’s final.
