St. George beat Zanzibar’s KMKM 2-1 away from home in CAF CL qualifier
Addis Ababa, August 19, 2023 (FBC) – The 2022/23 Ethiopian premier league champions Saint George, also known as Kidus Giorgis, edge Zanzibar’s KMKM SC 2-1 away from home in the first preliminary round of the 2023/24 TotalEnergies CAF champions league.
The 60th edition of CAF champions league kicked off on Friday 18 Agust in different parts of the continent with KMKM SC of Zanzibar taking on St. George being on of the fixtures.
Ethiopian Champions Kidus Giorgis, alias The Horsemen, who are setting their eyes in making their second appearance in the group stages opened their journey with vital win away at the Unguja Park.
Kidus Giorgis who lost several key players in the ongoing summer transfer Window named Nigerian forward Moses Tochukwu Odo and Ghanaian Kwame Frimpong to make their full debut.
Kidus Giorgis were by far the dominant side in both halves as they dictated the game with their expansive football but their decision making in the final third was a huge late off.
Goals in each half from Biniyam Belay and their skipper Natnael Zeleke gave the Ethiopian champions the edge going into the second leg set to played at the Ababa Bikila stadium in nine days time.
