PM Abiy attending int’l conference on dev’t, migration in Rome

Addis Ababa, July 23, 2023 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) is currently attending the International Conference on Development and Migration in Rome, Italy, the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed.

Given its strategic position in the Horn of Africa, Ethiopia, is a source, transit, and destination for migration, PM Office said.

Accordingly, Ethiopia has taken several policy, legal and institutional measures to enhance migration governance, as well as to address irregular migration and human trafficking, the Office of the Prime Minister added.

In a message published on his Twitter page, Prime Minister Abiy said thanked the Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni for convening the International Conference on Development and Migration.

“While labour migration is a source of employment and livelihood for migrants, and a resource for their country of origin, addressing irregular migration and crime of human trafficking need to be addressed from the root causes through investments and clear actions for poverty alleviation in source countries,” he noted.
