African Employment Creation Forum underway in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, July 7, 2023 (FBC) – The African Employment Creation Forum kicked off in Addis Ababa under the theme “Accelerating Job Creation, Digital and Financial Inclusion in the AfCFTA market”.

The African Integration Day which is part of the forum is also taking place commemorating major achievements attained in regional and continental integration process, and also, to deliberate on critical lessons learned, with a view of addressing challenges faced.

The Labor and Skills Minister of Ethiopia Muferihat Kamil, Former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, African Union Commission (AUC) Trade, Tourism, Insustry and Mining Commissioner, Albert M. Muchanga, Deputy Commissioner of the AUC Monique Nsanzabaganwa and officials of the African regional economic institutions are in attendance of the Forum.

The forum will explore ways how to spur the AfCFTA implementation to specifically focus on the creation of jobs in order to drive shared prosperity across the continent.

The three day forum is deliberating on implementation of digital technologies and financial inclusion in AfCFTA, youth job creation and African Strategic Investment Roadmap.

The AfCFTA is the world’s largest free trade area bringing together the 55 countries of the African Union (AU) and eight (8) Regional Economic Communities (RECs).

The overall mandate of the AfCFTA is to create a single continental market with a population of about 1.3 billion people and a combined GDP of approximately US$ 3.4 trillion.
