DPM & FM Demeke Mekonnen reassures Ethiopia’s continued support for Africa CDC
Addis Ababa, July 3, 2023 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen earlier this afternoon conferred with Jean Kaseya, Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
During their conversation, Demeke hailed the new Headquarters of the Africa CDC in Addis Ababa as a flagship project that is geared towards advancing the agenda of health in Africa.
He also reassured the Director General of the continued support of the Government of Ethiopia to the continental health body to fully operationalise its activities and contribute towards a better health future, as a world class center of research and innovation laboratory.
Africa CDC will continue providing the necessary technical support to Member States while capitalizing on their continued guidance and support, the DG added.
He said Africa CDC is a continental autonomous health agency of the African Union established to support public health initiatives of Member States and strengthen the capacity of their public health institutions to detect, prevent, control and respond quickly and effectively to diseases.
The Director General also expressed his appreciation for Ethiopia’s continued support to Africa CDC since its inception.
He said Ethiopia is playing a pivotal role in hosting its Headquarters and helping the Center discharge its responsibility to Member States.
