President plants tree seedlings along Lake Hawassa as she launches GLI in Sidama Region

 Addis Ababa, June 24, 2023 (FBC) – President Sahle-Work Zewde has launched the secound phase Green Legacy Initiative (GLI) planting tree seedlings at the bank of Lake Hawassa in the regional capital.

In her remarks during the launching of the tree planting, the President said “there is no mountain of poverty that we can’t cross if we all stand together.”

She said that the national tree planting initiative should be the responsibility of all citizens, calling for due care for seedlings being planted nationwide.

The Water and Energy Minister, Habtamu Itefa (PhD) said groundwater volume and forest coverage have been restored nationwide since the commencement of the tree planting campaign.

The Minister explained that 60 pct of the seedlings being planted this year are of mixed farming purposes while the remaining are tailored to beautification and animal fodder.
