High Level Forum on Ethiopian Diplomacy underway
Addis Ababa, June 24, 2023 (FBC) – A high-level “Consultative Forum on Ethiopian Diplomacy” is underway at Haile Grand Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The consultative forum was organized with the collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its affiliate, Institute for Foreign Affairs (IFA).
In his opening remarks, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen said, “in a world where there are ever-changing perspectives and needs, it is crucial to effectively utilize the active and proactive ideas of all parties.” These consolidated efforts will help Ethiopia protect its national interest more than ever before, he said.
“We should strive to create a conducive milieu wherein our nationals could play an active role in the conduct of our foreign relations,” the DPM and FM added.
Speaking of regional geopolitical dynamics, Demeke said, the Horn of Africa is a region that perennially attracts the attention of several actors and noted Ethiopia’s continued consideration of incumbent and emerging scenarios and their implications.
The historic consultative session was attended by scores of senior government officials, parliamentarians, heads of departments of the MFA and its affiliated institutions, scholars, the media corps and many other invited guests.
Miscellaneous research papers were also presented by scholars and policy researchers for panel discussions.
