Ethiopian Cycling Championship underway in Mekele city
Addis Ababa, June 21, 2023 (FBC) – The 2023 Ethiopian Cycling Championship has kicked off today in Mekele city, where competitors from all regional states and city administrations are participating.
It is noted that the President of Ethiopian Cycling Federation, Wondmu Haile and Head of Social Development Transition of the Tigray Region Interim Administration Kendeya Gebre-Hiwot have launched the national cycling race.
While opening the championship, Wondmu Haile said that the competition that will be held from today June 21 to 25, 2023 is vital to further strengthen the people-to-people relations in the country.
The cycling competition will be helpful to select cyclists who will represent Ethiopia in international cycling competitions next year, he added.
For his part, Kindeya Gebre-Hiwot emphasized that the ongoing cycling championship contributes greatly to ensuring lasting peace.
He also entrusted the cycling competitors to be ambassadors of peace.
Tigray Region Interim Administration Cycling Federation Head Asefa Gebre-Slassie thanked the Ethiopian Cycling Federation for facilitating the 2023 cycling championship to be held in Mekele city.
He affirmed that the regional interim administration will work in coordination with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that the competition concludes effectively.
