Ethiopia, Brazil agree to take diplomatic ties a notch higher
Addis Ababa, June 5, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Brazil vowed to take their bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations to a higher level.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, discussed with the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira today on the issues pertaining to scaling up the relations between the two countries a notch higher.
The two sides reaffirmed the respective commitments of their governments to further enhance the longstanding diplomatic relations.
Pointing to the fact that it is high time to elevate Ethio-Brazilian relations, DPM & FM Demeke said the opening of an Ethiopian Embassy in Brasilia is aimed at bolstering relations between the two countries.
Demeke also thanked the Government of Brazil for supporting sustainable forest management, cotton productivity, and soil protection projects in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia and Brazil could further cooperate in the areas of investment, aviation, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, environmental protection, mining, and renewable energy, DPM & FM Demeke noted.
Brazilian FM Ambassador Vieira, on the other hand, expressed his government’s readiness to support sports and other sectors parallel to advanced mutual interests in bilateral and multilateral venues. The dignitaries have also agreed to conduct political consultations subsequently.
It is to be remembered that the Brazilian Foreign Minister has arrived in Ethiopia for an official working visit. Following his arrival in Addis Ababa, Mauro Vieira also held a discussion with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to strengthen the ties between Ethiopia and Brazil as well as cooperation on multilateral issues.
