National COVID19 Committee mobilizes 150m birr in 5 days

Addis Ababa, March 31, 2020 (FBC) –The National COVID19 Resource Mobilisation Committee has so far mobilized 150 million birr locally.

The amount doesn’t include the contributions made in-kind, said Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed on his Facebook page.

The committee was established five days ago with a task of coordinating efforts of gathering financial and non-financial materials for COVID-19 emergency preparedness.

More than 241,000 people have contributed 2.7 million birr through Ethio-telecom SMS service locally, he added.

“This is a clear demonstration of MEDEMER in action, with Ethiopians from all walks of stating that we stand united through adversity.

“I thank you all for heeding the call and ask you to continue your support through the official government channels of resource mobilising.”

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammed Ali Al-amoudi, chairman and owner of MIDROC Ethiopia, donated 120 million birr to fight coronavirus.
