Ethiopia, Zambia discuss role of AU member states for implementation of Agenda 2063
Addis Ababa, April 25, 2023 (FBC) – Rose Kashembe Sakala, Zambia’s ambassador to Ethiopia, presented a copy of her letter of credentials to Ambassador Demeke Atnafu, Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
During the discussion, Ambassador Demeke noted that the two countries should strengthen their bilateral economic and political relations and collaborate in multilateral fora.
The two sides also discussed the role AU Member States should play in the implementation of Agenda 2063 with a view of strengthening the Union. Amb. Rose Kashembe said that Zambia recognizes Ethiopia’s contribution to the continent by supporting independence struggles.
Assuring the Ambassador about the Ethiopian Government’s commitment to the full implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement, the Chief of Protocol also gave a short briefing on outstanding issues in the GERD negotiations, as per MFA Ethiopia.
Ambassador Demeke also received letter of credence from Dr. Erick Estuardo Escobedo Ayala, Non-Resident Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Guatemala to Ethiopia.
In his discussion with the Guatemalan Non-Resident Ambassador-Designate, Demeke stated that the ambassador’s appointment demonstrates Guatemala’s commitment to strengthening ties with Ethiopia and Africa. He suggested that the two countries should engage on international platforms in the context of South-South cooperation.
The Guatemalan Ambassador recalled the 21-year diplomatic relationship between the two countries and reiterated the decisions of Ethiopia and Guatemala to draft a general cooperation agreement to deepen the partnership even further.
