PM Abiy Ahmed calls on Sudanese parties to take lessons from Ethiopia’s peace process
Addis Ababa, April 23, 2023 (FBC) – In his remarks at the event organized to recognize individuals, group and governments contributed to the peace efforts in Ethiopia, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted the signficance of peace in ensuring development and prosperity.
Ethiopia has learned a lot from the two year conflict, the Prime Minister noted, calling Ethiopians to nurture the hapit of resolving differences through dialoge, rather than seeking forceful mechanism to every problem.
“Let us carve out our brighter future from our failure in the past,” the Premeir noted, adding he indicated that forgiveness is instrumental in avoiding conflict and war and reconciliation a mechanism to rectify the mistaeks in the past.
The Prime Minister stressed need to strengthen the efforts for redress and rehabilitaion of conflict affected communities to make the peace process complete and successful.
A delegation of chief administrators of the regional government led by the Vice Chairperson of the ruling Prosperity Party will travel to Tigray region soon to observe implementation of the peace process, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister called on the Sudan warring parties to take lessons from Ethiopia and return to peaceful dialogue to end the conflict.
“I call up on General Abdul Fettah al Burhan and Mohammed Hadan Dagalo to take lessons from the peace process in Ethiopia, he said. We wish the Sudanese leaders to organize this kind of event in their country.”
Ethiopia has finalized to dispatch 50,000 quintals of wheat and medicines to the people of Sudan. Ethiopia Aid is ready to go to Sudan and hand over the assistance to the people of Sudan, he added.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister disclosed that the federal government of Ethiopia will start negotiations with the Shene group in Tanzania the day after tomorrow, calling Ethiopians particularly the people of Wollega to play their part in supporting this effort.
