Ethiopia set to plant 6.3 billion trees in 5th round Green Legacy Initiative
Addis Ababa, April 12, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture announced a plan to plant 6.3 billion trees during the upcoming 5th round Green Legacy Initiative.
Out of the total trees to be planted, 45 percent are aimed to boost the forest coverage while 55 are tailored to integrated agriculture practices and horticultural purposes.
The Green Legacy Initiative led tree planting drive has been significantly contributing to the efforts underway to ensure food security besides reinforcing the water and soil conservation activities, the Ministry said.
The nation has so far undertaken water and soil conservation activities on more than 1.8 million ha of land, it was learned.
