MFA State Minister confers with AUC chairperson
Addis Ababa, April 11, 2023 (FBC) – The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, discussed today various issues with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.
During the discussion, Ambassador Mesganu explained about the implementation of the peace agreement reached under the aegis of the African Union.
The Minister of State highlighted Ethiopia’s position regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to the AUC chairperson, emphasizing that Ethiopia holds a firm stance that the tripartite negotiations should continue under the auspices of the African Union.
Mesganu underlined that the Egypt’s efforts of politicizing the GERD and the Nile water does not benefit all parties.
Ambassador Mesganu believes that such detrimental move will end and the AU will play its integral role to continue negotiations based on the facts on the ground.
He pointed out that Ethiopia appreciates the institutional report currently being carried out by the African Union, affirming that his country will provide the necessary support for the successful journey of the continental organization.
The Minister of State also asked that the rights and interests of Ethiopians working in the AU should be taken into account when the new reforms are implemented.
The AUC chairperson, for his part, said that since the Nile is an African river, the AU believes that the agenda should be continental.
He also mentioned that the AU will provide unceasing support for the negotiations to be settled in the African framework.
The Mr Moussa Faki Mahamat has confirmed that the organizational reform to be carried out with respect to the rights and interests of the employees.
