Ethiopia, Sudan agree to cooperate in information, digital technology
Addis Ababa, March 16, 2023 (FBC) – The governments of Ethiopia and Sudan have signed an agreement to cooperate in the fields of information communication, digital technology, and telecommunications.
The agreement was signed by the Ethiopian Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla, and Sudan’s Minister of Telecommunications & Digital Information, Adel Hassan Mohamed Al-Hussein.
During the signing event, Belete Molla recalled that Ethiopia and Sudan are sisterly countries with a long-standing history.
He underscored that the people of the two countries share common history, common boundary, and are children of the same river.
Governments and the current crop of generation should shoulder responsibility to improve the lives of the people by linking the countries through contemporary telecommunication, information, and digital technology, the Ethiopian Minister said.
He affirmed that both sides will work diligently to design and implement plans that will turn the agreement into action and bring desired outcomes in the sector.
For his part, Adel Hassan Mohammed said that the Sudanese delegation came to Ethiopia to sign an agreement to cooperate in the fields of telecom and digital technology and to jointly develop a digital economy.
It is said that the bilateral agreement signed by the top officials of the two countries aims to benefit the citizens living in the border area of Ethiopia and Sudan.
A technical team will be formed to implement the agreement, FBC understands.
Furthermore, a joint technical committee will be established to monitor and enforce the implementation of the agreement, it is noted.
