Ethiopia and China vow to enhance cooperation on bilateral, multilateral fora

Addis Ababa, February 25, 2023 (FBC) – Finance Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ahmed Shide had a comprehensive discussion with Deng Li, Vice Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing on political, diplomatic and economic partnership between the two countries.

Ahmed Shide thanked the vice-Minister for the warm welcome accorded to his high level delegation since arrival in Beijing and he reiterated that, Ethiopia and China share a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership based on the principle of win-win, mutual trust and respect. 

Stating that Ethiopia and China have witnessed high-level communications including the recent visit of Foreign Minister Qin Gang to Ethiopia, which shows solid political ties between the two countries, Ahmed underscored, Ethiopian government has full commitment to enhance the cooperation with China on both bilateral and multilateral fora. 

He further elaborated on the need to boost the relations of the two countries to achieve all-round developments. 

Deng LI on his part highlighted Ethiopia as a key ally and strategic partner that plays a great role in Africa, China has keen interest to further enhance its relations under the framework of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). 

He underlined that Chinese government has unwavering partnership to Ethiopia in the long run for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
