36th Ordinary Session of AU Assembly of heads of government, state kicks off
Addis Ababa, February 18, 2023 (FBC) – The 36th Ordinary Session of AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government has kicked off at AU Hall in Addis Ababa.
Chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat and Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed (PhD) have delivered opening speech.
The AU Commission Chairperson said the infrastructure, energy and digitization of the economy remain to the major agenda of the African continent in the years to come.
The free movement of people and goods are significant components to ramp up economic transformation in the continent, stressing need to realize free financial institutions.
Unconstitutional change of governments and terrorism continue to be security treat in Africa, calling for continued consolidation of efforts to address the challenges through African mechanisms.
Regarding the peace agreement in Ethiopia, the Chairperson congratulated Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for the accord reached between the federal government and the TPLF.
He extended gratitude to all participated in the peace process in Ethiopia. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed reiterated Ethiopia’s firm stance for the principle of “African Solutions to African Problems.” “We are applying the timeless wisdom of our fathers to resolve our own problems,” he said.
