Chairperson acclaims profound contribution of member states to strengthen EASF
Addis Ababa, February 13, 2023 (FBC) – Member states have committed their finance, manpower and time to strengthen Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) and undertake its mission properly, said Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula.
With the theme of “Transform EASF, Contribute to Peace and Security in Eastern Africa Region”, the Eastern Africa Chiefs of Defence and Security meeting is being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of the 31st EASF Policy Organs Meetings.
The guest of honour of the Ordinary Policy Organs Meeting (POM), Agegnehu Teshager, FDRE House of Federation Speaker, stated that Africa is facing various challenges.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation among nations because the challenges of one country are also problems of neighbouring countries.
Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, for his part, pointed out that terrorism, unconstitutional change of governments and cross-border crimes are happening frequently in Africa.
He is optimistic that the meeting will provide active ideas to address these and other problems.
The Chief of General Staff said that the meeting will focus on discussing the draft action plan and budget of EASF along with other important documents.
EASF Director, Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw, has explained that in the past few days, proposals have been made to enhance the organization’s overall image and institutional form.
In its 2-day schedule, Chiefs of General Staff Meeting is expected to pass decision on the organization’s mission execution, according to the FDRE Ministry of Defense.
